Edo First Lady 's Office Champions  Equity And Parity Of The Girl Child

Edo State Office of the First Lady in collaboration with the Vice President, Student Union, University of Benin  has organized an event to promote the importance of  empowering the girl child , tagged 'Save the Girl Child'.

Stating the importance of gender Parity and resilience for girls in all aspects of life,  coordinator office of the First Lady,Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, said empowering girls is crucial for creating a better and brighter future .

According to her, "empowering a girl child is a  collective responsibility", not just for individuals but for entire communities and nations. 

Mrs. Anani, identified several challenges facing girls, including limited access to education, health disparities, cultural and socio-economic barriers, victimization, exploitation, and violence. Which she said can have long-lasting physical and emotional scars, making it essential to address them promptly.

"Empowering girls can have a transformative impact on their lives and the lives of those around them. 

"Educated girls become strong women who contribute to their families and economies, raise healthier children, drive economic growth, and advocate for equality and justice.' By equipping girls with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, we can create a brighter future for generations to come."

She added that, educated girls can make informed decisions about their health and well-being, participate in the workforce, and become agents of change in their communities.while urging that stakeholders must work together to create a world where every girl can thrive, grow, and reach her full potential.

The Vice President of the Student Union, UNIBEN, Miss Omotuemen Favour, encouraged girls to participate in leadership and address issues affecting them, such as sexual harassment and limited participation in leadership. 

The Honourable Commissioner of Women Affairs emphasized the importance of protecting girls and promoting gender equity, calling for a policy framework to hold perpetrators of sexual harassment accountable.

The engagement highlighted the importance of stakeholders working together to create a world where every girl can thrive. 

By empowering girls and promoting their development, we can make a difference and ensure a brighter future for generations to come. As Miss Isabella Anani noted, "When you sit at the table, ensure your voice is heard. Make it clear that you bring value to the discussion." By working together, we can create a brighter future for all.

A Pressing Plea for Help-Young Couple Seeks Assistance to Discharge Their Newborn Baby Habiba Aniekan Sam  A young couple, Mr. Saviour Sunday, 29, and his wife, Mrs. Beauty Sunday, 24, from Oruk Anam LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA of AKWAIBOM State, are in dire need of financial assistance to discharge their newborn baby boy from St. Philomena Hospital in Benin City.  The baby, born prematurely on May 29, has been receiving treatment at the hospital and is currently in a stable condition.
