Mrs. Ikhayere Mary Oboh's 90th birthday celebration was a grand affair that brought together family, friends, and dignitaries from across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the US. 

The occasion which was held at Molen Event Center, Ekpoma, Edo State was marked with warmth and joy, as guests gathered to honor her life and legacy. 

The birthday celebration was officially opened by Chief Abraham Jimawo (JP), a respected leader and former Executive Director of the Edo State Rapid Response Agency and son-in-law  to the celebrant with prayers and the traditional breaking of the kola nut.

Chief Jimawo was joined by prominent dignitaries, including political allies, friends, business associates,  Honorary Members of the 107 Maritime Nigerian Air Force Officer's Mess Benin City and others.

In his remarks, Barrister D. O. Aziegbe, a close friend of Chief Jimawo, described him as a brother and a respected leader in the United Kingdom (UK). He praised Chief Jimawo for his warm and brotherly treatment, and expressed gratitude for his consistent support and hospitality.

Barr. Aziegbe paid special tribute to the celebrant, Mrs Ikhayere Mary Oboh who he referred to as our mother and commended her for her motherly care and commitment towards the general wellbeing of humanity.

Dr. Vincent Oseghale, son to the celebrant and General Overseer of a Mega church in Ekpoma and brother in-law to Chief Jimawo was in attendance with his lovely wife Apst Dr. Mrs Cynthia Oseghale, Engr. Donatus Ehi-Aloja, a son in-law to the celebrant and UK based Architect and his lovely wife Mrs. Jane Ehi-Aloja a daughter to the celebrant and sister in-law to Chief Abraham Jimawo and several dignitaries from across Nigeria, United Kingdom and the US.

In his special tribute to the celebrant, Chief Abraham Jimawo describe his mother in-law Mrs Ikhayere Mary Oboh as a mother to all, who has impacted  positively on the lives of many people both spiritually, physically, materially and otherwise, saying that he is very proud to have married from the family of Mrs. Ikhayere Mary Oboh  of Ekpoma. As he praised her for her enduring legacy. 

Throughout the day, guests shared heartfelt tributes and testimonies, celebrating Mrs. Oboh's life, legacy, and impact. 

Her granddaughter, Miss Osaghala Veda, described her as a role model who has guided her with wisdom, and prayed for her long life to witness the success of her descendants.

Pastor Dr. Ojazole Emmanuel admired her devotion to serving God, while Mrs. Izewingie from St. Gregory Catholic Church described her as a dedicated church member loved by all.

The celebration continued into the evening with music, dancing, and delicious meals, culminating in the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake. Mrs. Oboh's son, Dr Akhigbe Oboh expressed gratitude to everyone who came to honor his mother's life and legacy, offering prayers of peace, good health, and blessings to all who shared in this joyful occasion.

A Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated  on Sunday 27th July 2025,at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Ekpoma, bringing together members of the community friends and well-wishers to express gratitude to God for the life of the celebrant.

Habiba Sam The Edo State Government has taken a significant step towards making Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) services more accessible to residents of Edo Central Senatorial District. 

The government has officially launched the Edo Central office of the Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS) in Ekpoma, a move aimed at bringing the services closer to the grassroots.

The new office, located at the Esan West Council Secretariat along the Benin-Auchi express road in Ekpoma, will cater to the CofO needs of residents in the five local government areas of Esan West, Esan Central, Esan North-East, Esan South-East, and Igueben. 

By providing this service, the government hopes to reduce the challenges faced by residents in accessing CofO services, thereby promoting ease of doing business in the state.At a stakeholders' engagement held to declare the office open, the Managing Director of EDOGIS, Dr. Tony Ikpasaja, assured residents that the agency is committed to delivering CofO services in a timely manner, provided they meet the necessary requirements. 

He emphasized that the office was established to bring services closer to the people, in line with the state governor's vision.

The event featured an enlightenment session on the services of EDOGIS, where top officers of the agency educated stakeholders on the benefits of the new office. 

The stakeholders, including traditional rulers, property owners, and representatives of communities, expressed delight and commended the state government for the initiative.

The stakeholders' engagement was followed by a rally to the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma and a road show to sensitize residents about the presence and services of EDOGIS in their locality. 

The government plans to officially commission the Edo North Senatorial District office in Auchi on August 6 and 7, 2025.

The Office of the First Lady of Edo State, in partnership with the Edo State Migration Agency, organized a walk across major streets of Benin City to mark the World Day Against Human Trafficking. 

The event, themed "Human Trafficking is Organised Crime: End the Exploitation," aimed to raise awareness about the severity of human trafficking and the importance of collective action to prevent it.

Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, emphasized that human trafficking is a serious crime with severe consequences, especially for children and women. 

She commended Governor Monday Okpebholo's administration for its efforts in combating trafficking, attributing the reduction in human trafficking cases to the governor's attention to the migration agency and investments in education.

The Director General of the Edo State Migration Agency, Mr. Lucky Agazuma, stated that the agency is working tirelessly to address human trafficking, which has been reduced to the barest minimum in the state. 

He emphasized the importance of stakeholder involvement, including families, in preventing human trafficking.

Dr. Lauretta Oduwa, Director General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency, highlighted the harsh realities of human trafficking, including sexual exploitation, rape, unintended pregnancies, and the risk of infectious diseases. She stressed the need for more partnership between stakeholders to address these issues.

Comrade Festus Alenkhe , Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, emphasized the importance of addressing human trafficking, highlighting challenges in prosecution and the need for collaboration between authorities and journalists. 

He commended the Office of the First Lady for its efforts in combating human trafficking.

The event concluded with a call to action, urging stakeholders to work together to prevent human trafficking and protect vulnerable populations.

The Edo State Government House Clinic recently commemorated World Hepatitis Day by offering complimentary Hepatitis B and C tests and vaccinations to Government House staff. 

This initiative, overseen by Dr. Precious Ogboru, Special Adviser on Health Matters, aimed to raise awareness and promote action against the disease. 

A significant number of political appointees and civil servants took advantage of the opportunity, demonstrating a growing willingness to confront the stigma associated with hepatitis.

The event marked a bold step by the Edo State Government to join the global effort to combat hepatitis, a disease that often remains silent until severe liver damage has occurred. 

With the provision  of free tests and vaccinations, the government is encouraging staff to take control of their health and prioritize liver protection. 

Early detection and prevention are crucial in managing and treating hepatitis, and this initiative serves as a vital reminder of the importance of proactive health measures.

The Edo State Government's commitment to promoting health and well-being is reflected in its slogan, "A Healthy Edo is a Rising Edo."

Habiba SamThe Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba (KSM/LSM) in the Benin Archdiocese recently commemorated the Founder's Day, reflecting on the life and virtues of Fr.Abraham Anselm Ojefua. 

The celebration, themed "Patience in Life or Servant of God - Fr. Abraham Anselm Ojefua," highlighted the importance of patience in the face of adversity.

Fr. Ojefua, the founder of the KSM, demonstrated remarkable patience and perseverance in his mission to promote Christian values and social justice. Despite facing resistance and skepticism, he remained resolute in his vision, building the order slowly but surely through prayer, service, and unity.

The event featured a thought-provoking talk by Rev. Fr. Francis Abubokhale, who explored the concept of patience as a theological virtue and practical weapon.

He recounted the life of Fr. Anselm Isidahome Ojefua  who was a Catholic priest and monk born on January 15, 1910, in Igueben, Edo State, Nigeria. 

Ordained in 1942 and emerged as a prophet of patient reform in post-colonial Nigeria. Fr. Ojefua envisioned a Church where African Catholics were not just passive participants but spiritual leaders who collaborated with the Church hierarchy. 

Who believed in the power of the laity to transform society through prayer, patient service, and unity.

Fr. Ojefua founded the Knighthood of St. Mulumba in 1953, modeled after the Knights of Columbus, with the aim of instilling Christian values and fighting social evils like injustice, discrimination, and marginalization.

Despite facing resistance from colonial structures, sectarianism, and skepticism, Fr. Ojefua persevered, building the Order slowly but surely. He used the mass media and lectures to fight social evils and promote Christian values, earning him recognition as a prophet of social justice.

"Fr. Ojefua is known for his dogged patience, a virtue that enabled him to endure setbacks and challenges while remaining resolute in his mission. 

His life and legacy serve as a testament to the power of patience and perseverance in achieving meaningful change." 

"Today, the Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba stands as a testament to his holy perseverance, and his life continues to inspire many to live out the virtue of patience in their own lives."

Fr. Francis emphasized that patience is not weakness or passivity but rather spiritual maturity in motion, citing scripture and the lives of saints and historical figures who demonstrated patient perseverance in their fights for justice and human dignity.

The Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba were encouraged to cultivate personal patience, build a patient fraternity, exercise spiritual endurance in service, mentor younger members, and be morally courageous in speaking truth with love. 

By embracing "dogged patience," they can effectively serve as defenders of the faith, promoters of social justice, and witnesses to the transformative power of Christ's love.

Beauty Sunday. The family had been struggling to cover the medical expenses of their premature baby boy, born on May 29, 2025, with an outstanding bill of N1.4 million.

The Edo State Government stepped in to settle the family's medical bills, showcasing its commitment to the welfare of all residents. 

Mrs. Anani emphasized the government's prioritization of healthcare and access to quality medical care for everyone. She advised the family to ensure the baby receives proper medical check-ups and immunization.

The Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS) is set to embark on a sensitization tour of Edo North and Edo Central areas to create awareness about its activities at the grassroots.

The Edo State Government has issued a warning to property owners in the state to pay their Land Use Charge (LUC), a land-based tax that includes property tax, ground rent, and tenement rate.

 According to a statement by the Director of Media, Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), Dr. Tunde Eigbiremolen, government officials will soon enforce the law on defaulters.

The enforcement is aimed at recovering all outstanding indebtedness to the government, which will be used to fund ongoing infrastructural development projects across the state. 

EDOGIS, the agency responsible for managing and administering the state's land resources, has served notices to defaulters and debtors, informing them of their outstanding Land Use Charges.

Defaulters have been warned to settle their debts promptly to avoid further enforcement actions and penalties, which include outright closure of the property, imposition of penalties, and legal actions. 

Property owners who wish to discuss payment options or seek clarification on their outstanding debts have been advised to contact the EDOGIS office.

In a bid to promote education and empowerment, the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) and the Edo State Agency for Mass Education (ESAME) have joined forces to take literacy to the doorstep of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Ohogua, near Benin City.

During a 2-day sensitization and enrollment exercise, officials from both organizations emphasized the significance of learning, stressing that age is no barrier to acquiring knowledge. 

Comrade Ismail Arabambi Oniyangi, Assistant Director of Education at NMEC, highlighted the importance of literacy, stating, "We want to assure you that it's never too late to learn, and education can be a game-changer in your life."

Kadiri Onose Charity, Assistant Director of Education at ESAME, echoed this sentiment, adding, "Education can help you achieve your aspirations, regardless of your age or circumstances. We're here to support and encourage you on your educational journey."

The IDPs camp's founder, represented by Pastor Evelyn Omigie, expressed gratitude to NMEC and ESAME for bringing education to the camp, saying, "Teaching our displaced persons to read and write is a top priority. We'll continue to support their efforts."

Edo First Lady Throws Compassion To Action- Rescues Akwaibom Couple From Burdensome Medical Bills

The family, comprising Mr. Saviour Sunday and Mrs. Beauty Sunday both from Akwa Ibom state, had been grappling with a hefty medical bill of N1.4 million for their premature baby boy, who was being held  after  completion of treatment  at St. Philomena Hospital in Benin City,while the couple were allowed to search for funds for his discharged .

The couple, who had been referred from one hospital to another, had paid N200,000 and received a donation of N70,000, but were still unable to cover the remaining balance of N1.4 million ,got rescued by the Edo First lady's office.

 Mrs. Anani, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mrs. Edith Sede, stepped in to settle the outstanding bill, reuniting the family with their baby.

 The couple had incurred significant medical expenses, amounting to N1.4 million, and had already paid N200,000, with a donation of N70,000 from a good Samaritan.

The Office of the First Lady intervened, settling the outstanding medical bill and allowing the couple to finally take their baby home.

The couple also appreciated the medical team at St. Philomena Hospital for providing care and treatment to their baby while they were searching for funds to settle the bill. 

The Office of the First Lady's intervention is a testament to their commitment to protecting the vulnerable and promoting a culture of compassion in Edo State. 

The family has  since expressed their gratitude for the kindness and motherly love shown by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady.

DSS Arraign 5 Suspects Over Benin kidnap Incident

The Department of State Services (DSS) has brought charges against five individuals accused of kidnapping Jeffery Iserere in Benin City. The suspects, identified as Ozo Obasuyi, Charles Edeho, Enofe Marvis, Johnbull Edoleyi, and Jeffery Igbinoba, were arraigned before the Edo State High Court.

The presiding judge, Hon. Justice A. N. Erhabor, ordered the remand of the five accused persons in prison custody, citing the seriousness of the offense. According to the judge, the alleged crime is punishable under Section 2(1) of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Edo State, 2013.

The suspects allegedly kidnapped Jeffery Iserere on June 2025, at Eyean on Benin-Auchi Road in Benin City. The incident has sparked widespread concern, and the DSS is working to ensure justice is served.

The case has been adjourned to a later date, pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The prosecution is expected to provide further guidance on the case, and the court will reconvene to hear the matter.

The alleged kidnapping offense is a serious crime under the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Edo State, 2013. The law imposes severe penalties on individuals found guilty of kidnapping, and the court is expected to take a stern view of the matter.

During the court proceedings, the judge emphasized the gravity of the offense and the need for the suspects to face trial. The defense counsel may file motions and pleas on behalf of the accused, while the prosecution will present its case against the suspects.

The case will proceed on the adjourned date, with the court expected to hear further arguments and evidence from both the prosecution and defense.

High-Profile Case Involving Allegations of Aiding Suicide and Financial Crimes Adjourned

A Federal High Court in Benin City has adjourned the hearing in a high-profile case involving allegations of aiding suicide and financial crimes linked to the death of Mrs. Lilian Omokhuale. The case, which was scheduled for hearing, has been adjourned to October 21, 2025, due to administrative issues.

The prosecution counsel, P. O. Odion Esq., has substituted the original charge sheet with a revised version, altering the direction of the case. Under the amended charge, Jessica Iguodala Oghomwen is now listed as the principal defendant, while two others, Akpes Omorodion and Esther Eguomo Oisamoje, are co-defendants. 

The three defendants are accused of conspiring to launder money, operate an illegal banking business, and aid the suicide of Mrs. Omokhuale.

Earlier, three individuals previously charged in the case, Chukwudi Akpotowho, Blessing Jatto, and Vincent Uhunmwangho, were formally discharged upon application by the prosecution. 

The court had also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Jessica Oghomwen due to her repeated failure to appear in court.

All parties will return to court on October 21, 2025, for further hearing. The complainant's counsel, Douglas Ogbankwa, has expressed readiness to proceed with the case. 

The court will likely consider the arguments and motions filed by the defense and prosecution in the upcoming hearing.

Edo Police Command Takes Proactive Measures To Prevent Security Breaches During NBM Founders Day Celebration

The Edo State Police Command has announced that it has put in place robust security measures to prevent any potential disruptions during the Neo Black Movement (NBM) Founders Day celebration, scheduled to take place on July 7, 2025. 

According to intelligence reports, there are concerns that the event could be used as an opportunity to cause mayhem and breach security.

The police command has made deployments across the state to ensure that law and order are maintained. In a statement released by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, the police warned hoteliers, lounge and bar owners, and other business premises that could serve as hideouts for potential troublemakers not to host any unlawful gatherings.

The police command has cautioned that any business premises found to be hosting such gatherings will face the full wrath of the law. 

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has appealed to the public to be security conscious and report any suspicious gatherings or activities to the police.

The Edo State Police Command has recently arrested several suspected cultists, including the alleged leader of NBM in the Edo Central senatorial district.

 Firearms and other incriminating evidence were recovered from the suspects. The police command's warning to hoteliers and the recent arrests demonstrate the government's commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.

The state government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has taken a zero-tolerance stance on cultism, directing security agencies to crack down on suspected cultists. 

The NBM has been a subject of controversy and debates in Edo State, with the group being linked to a series of cult-related activities.

The public is advised to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe Edo State. The police command's proactive measures are aimed at preventing any potential security breaches and maintaining law and order in the state.

Breaking Barriers:-50 Women Trained In CNG Conversion In Edo

A collaborative effort between the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), the Edo State Government, and the Lady Mechanic Initiative has yielded impressive results, with 50 young women now equipped with skills in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology. 

The graduation ceremony took place at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Edo State, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to empower women and promote sustainable energy solutions.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Imaan Ibrahim, highlighted the program's objective of positioning women at the forefront of the national automotive industry. She emphasized the need for a mindset shift towards career choices among women and pledged to launch similar initiatives to open up male-dominated sectors to women across the country.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, assured women in the state of continued support and empowerment to boost the state's GDP. 

He announced plans to train and empower 54,000 women over the next four years, aiming to improve the livelihood of families. The Governor's commitment to women's empowerment was reiterated by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilor.

The Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, emphasized the importance of empowering women, stating that it has a ripple effect on families, communities, and entire nations. 

She noted that educated and economically independent women become pillars of society, driving economic growth, promoting social justice, and raising healthier families.

The Director General of NADDC, Mr. Oluwemimo Osanipin, revealed that Edo State was chosen for the initiative due to its high number of lady mechanics and early adoption of CNG technology.

 He also announced plans to promote the use of new energy vehicles, highlighting the potential for sustainable energy solutions to drive economic growth.

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, praised the inclusion of women in Nigeria's energy transition, describing the training as a catalyst for change. Engineer Sandra Aguebor, a pioneer in the field, received accolades for her role in mentoring and training women. 

The graduates were hailed as "movement makers" and encouraged to continue pushing boundaries in their chosen careers.

As the newly trained mechanics received their certificates, the hall erupted in applause, symbolizing a national shift in mindset about women's roles in industry. 

A beneficiary of the program, Miss Lisa Okhomina, expressed her gratitude for the impactful training and pledged to motivate others to enroll in similar programs.

Edo State Battles Dengue Fever Outbreak Amidst Rising Health Concerns

The Edo State Ministry of Health has confirmed a disturbing outbreak of Dengue Fever, with a staggering 86 reported cases across multiple local government areas.

This alarming development was disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, during a high-level press briefing in Benin City.

The viral disease is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes, which thrive in areas with poor sanitation and stagnant water.

Residents are urged to take preventive measures, including keeping their surroundings clean, covering water containers, and using mosquito nets and insect repellents.

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), is working tirelessly to contain the outbreak.

Director Public Health, Dr. Stephenson Ojiefoh, has been appointed as the incident manager to lead the response efforts, and the Emergency Operation Center has been activated to coordinate a statewide response plan.

The Health Commissioner also provided updates on other disease outbreaks in the state, including-Lassa Fever, 137 confirmed cases with 24 deaths-Yellow Fever,2 confirmed cases with 1 death,Monkeypox (Mpox),8 confirmed cases with no deaths,Diphtheria- 8 confirmed cases with 3 deaths.

The Health Commissioner assured that the current administration under Governor Monday Okpebholo remains fully committed to protecting the health of residents and will continue working until all outbreaks are brought under control. 

The Ministry's response plan includes surveillance, case management, vector control, and environmental sanitation across all affected areas.

During a visit to the Lady Mechanic workshop in Benin City, Mrs. Anani commended the founder, Sandra Aguebor, for her dedication to uplifting young women.

The Lady Mechanic Initiative has trained 50 girls in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion, a highly sought-after skill that promotes environmental sustainability and financial independence.

Mrs. Anani assured the team of the state government's support, emphasizing the administration's commitment to initiatives that foster self-reliance among women and girls.

The graduation ceremony for the trained beneficiaries will take place on July 4, 2025, at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.

The Lady Mechanic Initiative has expanded to 20 states across Nigeria, offering life-changing opportunities to women and girls from various backgrounds. 

The program aims to reduce social vices among young women and promote financial independence through vocational skills training.

Office Of Edo First Lady Rally Behind Immunization Efforts

The Edo State Government has put in place structures to ensure free and safe vaccines for all children.

-The need for intensified community engagement, especially in rural areas, was emphasized to address vaccine resistance and misconceptions.

A nationwide vaccination campaign targeting measles and rubella is scheduled for rollout in October 2025, with additional phases planned for January 2026.

A Pressing Plea for Help-Young Couple Seeks Assistance to Discharge Their Newborn Baby

A young couple, Mr. Saviour Sunday, 29, and his wife, Mrs. Beauty Sunday, 24, from Oruk Anam LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA of AKWAIBOM State, are in dire need of financial assistance to discharge their newborn baby boy from St. Philomena Hospital in Benin City. 

The baby, born prematurely on May 29, has been receiving treatment at the hospital and is currently in a stable condition. However, the couple is struggling to pay the outstanding bill of N1.4 million.

The baby was born at a midwife center and was quickly referred to Modic Children Specialist Hospital due to breathing difficulties. 

After paying N18,000 for oxygen treatment, the couple was referred to Medvic Hospital, where they were asked to make an instant deposit  of N850,000. There after pay the sum N 118,000 per day till his discharged 

Unable to afford this amount, they were later referred to St. Philomena Hospital, where the baby received immediate attention and was placed on oxygen.

Mrs. Beauty Sunday, a recent civil service recruit as a cleaner under Governor Monday Okpebholo's administration, Mr. Saviour Sunday, who works as a Bar man  in a hotel, is finding it challenging to cover the medical expenses. 

Despite paying N200,000 and receiving a generous donation of N70,000 from a good Samaritan, the couple is still unable to pay the balance of N1.4 million.

The couple is reaching out to well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations for financial assistance to discharge their baby from the hospital.
