NUJ President Lauds Governor Umo Eno For Unprecedented Support To Journalists

Habiba  Aniekan Sam The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his remarkable gesture of donating 10 brand-new cars to members of the State Working Committee of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council. This unprecedented act has set a new standard for support and recognition of journalists' contributions in the state.

Comrade Yahya described Governor Umo Eno as a media-friendly leader who understands the critical role journalists play as watchdogs of society and as a bridge between government and the people. 

The NUJ President noted that this gesture is a testament to the governor's commitment to supporting the welfare of journalists and promoting a positive working relationship between the government and the media.

During the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NUJ, Comrade Yahya also inaugurated Comrade Gabriel Ekaidem as Zonal Trustee, Zone F, making him a member of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Union. This appointment is a recognition of Comrade Ekaidem's dedication and contributions to the NUJ.

The NEC meeting also focused on advocating for journalists' welfare and enhancement of professionalism. 

The meeting emphasized the need for qualified journalists to lead government communication offices and stressed the importance of adequate remuneration to reflect their contributions. 

These advocacy efforts aim to promote a better working environment for journalists and improve the quality of journalism in Nigeria.

The State Chairman of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, expressed appreciation to the National President for supporting the immediate past administration and called for continued support for the new administration.

 Comrade John pledged to contribute positively towards building a strong NUJ and promoting the welfare of journalists in the state.

The newly elected Chairman of the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, and Secretary, Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, were formally introduced and presented to NEC members, following their election on August 2, 2025. 

The NUJ President congratulated the new administration and expressed confidence in their ability to promote the interests of journalists in the state.
