In commemoration of the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Lebarty Community Health Foundation has donated cartons of assorted sanitary pads to the Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). The gesture forms part of the Foundation’s corporate social responsibility and supports NAWOJ’s plan to mark the day with school outreaches to educate girls on menstrual hygiene.
The items were presented on behalf of the Medical Director of the Foundation, Dr. & Pharm. Nosa Aigbe Lebarty, by a delegation led by the Vice President of Lebarty Community Health Foundation, Mrs. Orion Lebarty Olaye, and the Communication Director, Pst. Mrs. Ovis Enahoro.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the association, the Chairperson of Edo NAWOJ, Comrade Habiba Aniekan Sam, alongside with her Vice, Comrade Oyemwense Odeh, expressed deep appreciation for the Foundation’s consistent support to the association over the years. She noted that the gesture would not be forgotten, describing Lebarty Community Health Foundation as a reliable partner in advancing the welfare of women and girls.
Speaking on the planned activities, Comrade Habiba disclosed that World Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed globally on May 28, will be marked by the Edo State Chapter with visits to public secondary schools across the state. The outreach will focus on sensitizing young girls on proper menstrual hygiene management while distributing sanitary pads to support their health, dignity, and confidence in school.
“This timely intervention will help reduce stigma, promote health awareness, and encourage girls to stay in school during their menstrual cycle,” Habiba said.
She added that as a professional body, NAWOJ is committed to promoting the welfare of women, amplifying women’s voices, and advancing gender-sensitive reporting, while contributing meaningfully to issues affecting women, children, and other vulnerable groups in society.
The NAWOJ Chairperson thanked the Foundation profusely for its kind gesture to the association, both in the past and during the last administration, and called for sustained collaboration and support.
