PDP Picks Barr. Jemide Atie as Consensus Candidate for Warri South II in 2027

By Tosan Atie, Warri

Barr. Jemide Atie has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Warri South II Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a peaceful and well-attended primary held in Warri.

Atie was adopted as the party’s sole aspirant during the PDP constituency primaries conducted at Ekpen Lane, Ajamimogha, Warri. The motion for his adoption was moved by Mr. Ola Odeyemi of Okere Ward and seconded by Mrs. Joyce Osunde of Okumagba Ward 2. With no other aspirant stepping forward to contest, Atie was declared the consensus candidate and returned unopposed at the end of the exercise.

The atmosphere at the venue was orderly, with party members across the constituency turning out to witness the process and affirm their support for unity within the party.

Speaking after his emergence, Atie expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the PDP for the trust and confidence placed in him. He described the consensus decision as a sign of the party’s commitment to cohesion and internal democracy.

“I am deeply humbled by this mandate. I thank our leaders, ward executives, and every member who made this possible. This victory belongs to all of us,” Atie said.

He appealed to party faithful to close ranks and work together to strengthen the PDP’s presence in Warri South II and ensure the party delivers the dividends of democracy to the people. Atie pledged to run an inclusive campaign and legislative agenda that prioritizes youth empowerment, education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities if elected in 2027.

“I will not betray the confidence you have reposed in me. My commitment is to serve with integrity, transparency, and to ensure that every voice in Warri South II is heard and represented at the State Assembly,” he added.

The primaries were supervised by key party stakeholders, including the PDP Local Government Area Chairman, Mr. Austin Ejegi; State Woman Leader, Mrs. Esther Erhurhu; and the chairmen of the various wards within the constituency. Their presence, party members said, underscored the importance of the exercise and the party’s resolve to present a united front ahead of the 2027 polls.

Party leaders at the event commended the peaceful conduct of the process and urged members to sustain the spirit of unity as the PDP prepares for the general elections.
