CODAFA Rejects Fraudulent Warri Delineation Proposal by INEC
By Valerie Magnus / Warri
The President of Children of Drivers and Fishermen Association Worldwide, CODAFA, Mr. Romeo Diden, has condemned and rejected the fresh proposal by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the delineation of wards, polling units, state constituencies, and an additional federal constituency in Warri Federal Constituence. In a press release signed by Mr. Diden and the CODAFA Secretary, Mr. Blessing Okotie, and issued to journalists in Warri yesterday, the group described the proposal presented at the stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, Delta State, as “fraudulent, mischievous, and a misrepresentation of facts.”
According to the release, the outcome of the stakeholders’ meeting “cannot be sustained in any society governed by the rule of law and justice.” CODAFA said it therefore rejects the proposal in its entirety.
Mr. Diden noted that while CODAFA is not opposed to the Supreme Court judgment in _Hon. George Timinimi & Ors v. INEC, SC. 413/2016_ which ordered the delineation, the new INEC proposal repeats the same illegalities and fraudulent practices the Itsekiri Nation has consistently opposed.
“After careful review, we have decided to decline this proposal,” he said. “Our due diligence revealed material misrepresentations and inconsistencies. The proposal relies on statements we have determined to be fraudulent. We take matters of integrity and legal compliance seriously, and therefore we reject it.”
He added: “The Supreme Court ordered a delineation, but it did not order INEC to conduct an exercise tainted by fraud and corrupt practices. This delineation was carried out without neutrality, fairness, or justice, and it is unacceptable to the Itsekiri Nation.”
Mr. Diden further stated that the Itsekiri people have been oppressed and taken for granted for too long simply because they remain civil and accommodating. “There must be an end to this anomaly,” he declared.
