Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole Lauds Governor Okpebholo for Ending 8-Year Promotion Stagnation in Edo Public Hospitals

For more than eight years, the conversation in Edo State’s public hospitals was heavy with one word: stagnation. Medical doctors who stood on the frontlines through night shifts, emergencies, outbreaks, and daily service watched their career progression stall. Promotion files gathered dust while dedication remained constant. The result was uncertainty, low morale, and a growing fear that service would go unrecognized.

As Honourable Commissioner for Health, Edo State, I, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, commend His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, for his decisive leadership and approval of the long-awaited promotions for medical doctors in the Edo State Public Service. One signature has ended years of delay and restored hope to doctors across Benin City, Uromi, Auchi, Irrua, and every public health facility in the state.

This landmark approval is more than an administrative process. It is a clear demonstration of this administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, motivation, and professional development of healthcare workers. Governor Okpebholo has shown that he understands the vital role doctors play in building a healthy and prosperous Edo State. His action sends a strong message: sacrifice will meet recognition.

I also commend the Nigerian Medical Association, Edo State Branch, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Eustace Oseghale and the State Officers’ Committee, for their perseverance, constructive engagement, and steadfast advocacy on behalf of medical doctors. Their consistency kept the conversation alive until justice was served.

The impact of this approval is already evident. Morale is rising. Productivity will improve. And most importantly, the delivery of quality healthcare services across Edo State will be strengthened. This is a well-deserved recognition of the professionalism, dedication, and compassion our doctors have shown despite years of stagnation.

To every doctor whose name appears on this promotion list: I congratulate you. Your patience, resilience, and commitment to excellence have not gone unnoticed. I urge you to remain steadfast in service to humanity.

As Commissioner for Health, I reaffirm my commitment to work with His Excellency the Governor, NMA, hospital management, and all stakeholders to advance healthcare delivery and build a more resilient health system for the benefit of all Edo citizens.

After eight years of waiting, Edo’s doctors have a new beginning. Service has met recognition. Together, we will continue to build a healthier Edo State.
