The Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has sent warm congratulations to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, following his remarkable re-election at the polls.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, Shaibu said the governor’s win is a clear vote of confidence from Ekiti people in recognition of his impactful governance and people-centered policies.

He described Oyebanji’s return to office as a defining moment in Ekiti’s political history. Since the state was created in 1996, he noted, the governorship seat has been highly contested — with power often shifting after one term, through court rulings, or other political realignments.

Shaibu pointed out that many past governors, though competent, could not achieve back-to-back victories. That makes BAO’s re-election through popular vote a rare and commendable democratic feat.

“Ekiti people have spoken loudly with their votes. Your re-election shows the trust they place in your vision, your leadership style, and your dedication to improving lives,” Shaibu said.

The former Edo State Deputy Governor added that the peaceful outcome reflects Ekiti’s growing democratic culture, where citizens reward performance and clear vision with their mandate.

He also appreciated INEC, security personnel, traditional rulers, party leaders, and election observers for working together to deliver a free and credible election.

Shaibu expressed optimism that Oyebanji’s new term will usher in more jobs for youths, stronger infrastructure, better schools, and overall prosperity for Ekiti residents.

“I pray God gives you wisdom, strength, and direction as you continue serving Ekiti with purpose and excellence,” he prayed.

The NIS boss concluded by wishing Governor Oyebanji a fruitful second term and congratulated all Ekiti people on this historic democratic milestone.
