He appealed to the Edo State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, the Edo State Emergency Management Agency, EdoSEMA, private sector organizations, and prominent indigenes of Akoko-Edo to extend immediate assistance to those affected.
Afagase stressed that emergencies of this scale demand a united and compassionate response.
“No family should go through this alone. In times like this, we must rise together as one people to support our brothers and sisters who are hurting,” he stated.
“My heart is with every household affected by this unfortunate flood. I can only imagine the pain and trauma of losing shelter, valuables, and livelihoods in a single day. This is a trying period for our people in Igarra, and I pray that God grants them fortitude to navigate through it,” Afagase added.
The House of Representatives hopeful further urged government agencies to conduct a rapid assessment of the affected communities and deploy emergency relief supplies, temporary accommodation, and other forms of support to help victims get back on their feet.
He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth bodies, and community-based organizations to mobilize resources and volunteers to provide succor to the displaced persons. He noted that empathy and collective action are the true reflections of a caring society.
Afagase prayed for divine protection over the people of Igarra and the entire Akoko-Edo area, and expressed hope that such a calamity would not reoccur.
“In moments of crisis like this, humanity must come before politics. Our duty now is to stand with the victims, comfort them, and help restore their hope and dignity,” he said.
