Benin Archdiocese Mourns as Archbishop Augustine Akubeze Dies at 69

The Catholic Archbishop of the Benin Metropolitan See, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, has passed away.  

He died on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 69.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Oyanoafoh.
