Saturday was a historic day in Uwanno Kingdom as Senator Francis Asekhame Alimikhena was officially installed as the Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who attended the colourful ceremony, described the coronation as a turning point for the kingdom. He called on the new monarch to use his long years in public service to promote peace, unity and sustainable development.

The Governor noted that Alimikhena’s rise to the throne comes with a strong pedigree. Having served two terms as a Senator of the Federal Republic, he brings experience, contacts and governance knowledge that can attract growth to Uwanno.

“Your coming to this sacred throne is timely,” Okpebholo said. “The wealth of experience you gathered in the Senate will help in mobilising development and opening new opportunities for your people.”

He urged the Okumagbe to make unity, fairness and inclusiveness the foundation of his reign. He also reminded him that traditional rulers have a duty to protect culture, hold communities together, and drive development from the grassroots.

As the father of all, you must rule with wisdom, humility and an open heart,” the Governor said. “Ensure that no son or daughter of Uwanno is left behind.”

Governor Okpebholo also called on indigenes of Uwanno at home and abroad to support the new king and work together for the progress of the kingdom.

“A kingdom is strong when its people are united. Where there is unity, there is peace. Where there is peace, there is progress,” he added.

He assured that his government will continue to support initiatives that advance communities across Edo State.

Also at the event, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, congratulated the new monarch. He commended Alimikhena for his development strides while in the Senate and prayed for divine wisdom as he begins his reign.

In his remarks, the new Okumagbe of Uwanno  described the day as “a new dawn of peace, love and development” for the kingdom.

He announced the creation of a *Uwanno Development Fund, UDF, to mobilise resources for the transformation of Uwanno land.

“Together, we will build a Uwanno that works for everyone,” he said.

The ceremony drew traditional rulers, political leaders and a large gathering of people who came to witness the historic event.
