OKPAGHA-AMUFI ROAD: FROM FLOOD AND DESPAIR TO PROSPERITY AND HOPE


There are roads, and there are roads that redefine a people's destiny. The newly completed Okpagha-Amufi road, which strategically links the Benin-Auchi road to the Benin-Agbor road, constructed by the administration of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, clearly belongs to the latter.

For decades, Amufi was a community defined by its challenges. The story was the same: impassable roads, inaccessible homes, and a perennial flood that held the entire area hostage every rainy season. Many landlords became tenants elsewhere. Many who had invested their life savings in building houses watched helplessly as flood water took over. The area was fast becoming abandoned.

But today, the story has changed completely. And it is a story every Edo person should hear.

Governor Monday Okpebholo did not just award a road contract; he provided a holistic solution. At the heart of this project is a massive, well-engineered retention pond, deliberately created to house all flood water in the area. For the first time in many years, Amufi can confidently say: IT IS NO MORE FLOOD.

This singular intervention has solved what successive administrations considered impossible.

To complement this, the administration went further to construct four internal roads, all with standard side drains, opening up the entire Amufi community. Today, cars drive smoothly to doorsteps where people once paddled through water.

The socio-economic transformation is already evident and overwhelming.

Residents who had earlier left the area due to bad roads and devastating floods have now returned to their homes. Landlords who relocated are back. New tenants are trooping in. Businesses that closed shop are reopening.

Most importantly, the economic value of the area has skyrocketed. The price of land in Amufi and Okpagha has more than doubled. What was once considered a liability is now a prime asset. Investors are now scrambling for property in the area. This is how infrastructure drives wealth creation.

The people of Amufi are happy, and their happiness is visible. Their jubilation is not political; it is genuine. It is the joy of a people whose government has finally remembered them.

This is the hallmark of purposeful governance. This is what the SHINE Agenda of Governor Okpebholo represents: practical, people-oriented projects that directly impact lives.

The Okpagha-Amufi road is indeed a road to prosperity, a road to renewed hope, and a clear testament that Edo is truly rising again under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
