For the Senior Special Assistant to Edo State Governor on Public Affairs, Hon. Razak Zekeri, September 6th is not just about cake and celebrations. It is a day of giving back.

For years, the Governor’s aide has made it a tradition to mark his birthday at the Corner Stone of Hope Orphanage Home in Benin City, spending the day with children who have little but hope.

This year’s celebration on Saturday, September 6, 2026, was no different. Hon. Zekeri arrived at the orphanage with food items, toiletries, clothes, school materials and other relief materials to support the home.

Addressing the children and caregivers, Zekeri said his decision to celebrate with the orphans yearly is borne out of gratitude to God and a commitment to put smiles on vulnerable faces.

“Every September 6, I remind myself that life is about service. God has been faithful to me, and the best way to thank Him is to share with those who need it most. These children are our future, and they deserve love, care and opportunity,” he said.

He urged the children to remain focused in school and believe in their dreams, assuring them that the Okpebholo administration is committed to the welfare of every Edo child, regardless of background.

The atmosphere was filled with music, prayers and laughter as the children sang birthday songs for their visitor. Caregivers at the home presented Zekeri with a handmade card, while the children cut a birthday cake together with him.

The matron of the orphanage thanked Hon. Zekeri for his consistent support over the years, describing him as “a friend the children look forward to every September.”

“Each year he comes, he comes with love and with things that help us run the home. We pray God continues to bless and uplift him as he serves our dear state,” she said.

Hon. Zekeri said the gesture aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development, social welfare and care for the vulnerable in Edo State.

“I will continue to do this as long as God gives me life. Because leadership is not just about titles, it’s about touching lives,” he added.

The visit ended with group photographs, prayers for the governor, the state and Nigeria, and a promise from the children to “make Papa Zekeri proud.”
