For decades, the story of Benin City has been a story of growth, but that growth has come with a familiar pain point for every resident, every trader, and every motorist: the traffic logjam at Adesuwa Road Junction. Today, that story is being rewritten before our very eyes.

The ongoing construction of the flyover at Adesuwa Road Junction is arguably one of the most strategic infrastructure interventions by the administration of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo. It is not just another project; it is a bold statement that government understands where the shoe pinches.

ON TRAFFIC REDUCTION

Let us be clear on what this junction represents. It is the meeting point for thousands of vehicles daily - those coming from the kings square, GRA, Dumez road, MM Way, Ikpokpan and Warri, Sapele at peak hours will now heave a sigh of relief as what should be a two-minute drive turns into a one-hour ordeal. Workers get to work late, school children are stranded, goods are delayed, and fuel is wasted in endless idling.

The flyover is the permanent answer. Upon completion, it will separate through-traffic from local traffic, ensure seamless vehicular movement, eliminate the chaotic gridlock, and drastically cut down travel time. It will bring sanity, order, and free flow to one of the busiest intersections in Edo South. The era of epileptic traffic at Adesuwa Junction on Sapele road in Benin city will soon be history.

ON ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE

Beyond traffic, the economic importance of this flyover is monumental. Benin City is a commercial hub, and Sapele road by Adesuwa Junction is one of its arteries. When traffic is locked there, the entire economy of that axis is on hold.

This flyover will unlock that economy. It will facilitate the quick movement of goods and services, boost businesses around New Benin Market, Medical Stores, and Upper Mission, and enhance property value in the area. It will reduce vehicle maintenance costs caused by stop-and-go traffic, save man-hours, and improve productivity. Investors look for cities with good road networks and easy mobility; this flyover tells investors that Edo is ready for business.

It is infrastructure that directly puts money back into the pocket of the common man.

ON THE ENTHUSIASM OF THE PEOPLE AND COMMITMENT OF GOVERNMENT

That confidence is not misplaced. On site, work is going on steadily and aggressively. What has amazed many observers is that the contractor is working even with the rains. While other construction sites shut down during downpour, work continues at Adesuwa Junction. Piling, earthwork and structural works are ongoing simultaneously. This is diligence at its best.

And this diligence is made possible by one key factor: regular payment of the contractor. The Okpebholo administration has demonstrated uncommon financial discipline and commitment by ensuring the contractor is not owed. When a contractor is paid as and when due, there is no excuse for delay. This is why this project is moving at the speed of light, and why Edo people are confident it will be completed on schedule and not become another abandoned project.

In the final analysis, the Adesuwa Road Junction flyover is more than concrete, iron rods and asphalt. It is about time saved, business boosted, stress reduced, and dignity restored to commuters. It is governance felt in its most practical form.
