SPECIAL TRIBUTE & CLARIFICATION: RT. HON. PROF. JULIUS O. IHONVBERE CON, DSSRS, SERVICE OVER AMBITION

A DEMOCRAT WHO PAID THE PRICE FOR DEMOCRACY .  MY LEGACY DESCRIPTION OF HIM

1. INTRODUCTION - LEGACY AT NASS LIBRARY OPEN WEEK

At the National Assembly Library Open Week on 28th September 2026, the nation once again witnessed the intellectual depth and institutional vision of Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius O. Ihonvbere, CON, DSSRS, Leader of the House of Representatives in the 10th Assemblies.

MY LEGACY WORDS FOR PROF JULIUS IHONVBERE CON:

Prof. Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere CON is:

- A Democrat Who Paid The Price For Democracy

- Service Over Ambition

- Principle Over Politics

- Memory Over Forgetfulness

- An Intellectual Giant and Scholar-Statesman

- A Legend of Legislative Excellence

- A True Party Man - Not Desperate For Power

- An Institutional Builder - From Chambers To Library Shelves

- A Symbol of Peace, Unity and Progress

His contributions to knowledge, legislative history, and institutional memory underscore a legacy that transcends politics and will remain indelible even though he will not return to the 11th Assembly following the outcome of the APC primaries for Owan Federal Constituency.

2. CLARIFICATION ON APC PRIMARIES - IN HIS OWN WORDS

For the avoidance of doubt and for clear public record, I wish to draw attention to the Official Statement issued by Prof. Ihonvbere himself on 10th July 2026 from the Office of the House Leader.

In that statement, titled "Fallout of the APC Primaries in Owan Federal Constituency: Let Us Work Together For Our Great Party," the House Leader stated unequivocally:

"While we remain convinced that we did not lose the primary election, we have chosen, in the overriding interest of peace, unity, progress, and the consolidation of our democracy, to accept the final decision of the National Working Committee."

"I am a party man that is not desperate for power."

Prof. Ihonvbere therefore did NOT declare that he lost. He declared that he accepted the party's decision in the interest of peace.

His further directives to supporters were clear: remain calm, ignore provocation, reject violence in all its forms, set aside every grievance, and unite to work for all APC candidates.

3. THE COMMON THREAD - SERVICE OVER AMBITION

The NASS Library event and the 10th July statement reveal the same character.

In the Library, he invests in institutions that will outlive him.

In the primaries, he placed party peace above personal ambition.

Both actions define a true democrat who paid the price for democracy.

4. TRANSPARENCY NOTE FROM CONCERNED STAKEHOLDERS

As concerned stakeholders from Edo-North, we have observed with respect that contrary to the narrative that "his people do not want him," our records indicate no participation from Owan West across the 11 wards during the primary process.

In the spirit of transparency, party unity, and internal democracy, we respectfully call on the party to publish the ward-by-ward results of the 15th May 2026 primary election.

This call is made not in acrimony, but in pursuit of clarity and closure.

5. IN  CONCLUSION

Prof. Julius Ihonvbere CON has served Owan, Edo State, and Nigeria with distinction. From the hallowed chambers of the House to the shelves of the National Assembly Library, his service is documented.

We celebrate his legacy - Service Over Ambition, Principle Over Politics, Memory Over Forgetfulness - and urge all supporters to heed his call for peace and unity as we work for the success of the APC.

The struggle continues.

Signed:
