OPEN TRIBUTE TO MY DISTINGUISHED LEARNED SILK, FEMI FALANA, SAN
AS A PUBLIC COMMUNICATOR AND POLITICAL ANALYST - NATIONAL ISSUE OF IMPORTANCE
STANDING OVATION FOR A PATRIOT: EULOGY TO OUR DISTINGUISHED SENIOR ADVOCATE OF NIGERIA, FEMI FALANA, SAN
Date: 2nd October, 2026
On behalf of concerned citizens and lovers of true democracy, I write to commend and eulogize a colossus of law, conscience and courage - Femi Falana, SAN - for his unwavering stand for democracy, rule of law and good governance in Nigeria at this critical national moment.
At the 2026 ITV & Radio Pre-Independence Public Lecture in Benin City, themed "The Nigerian Dream: Still Valid or Dead on Arrival" the Senior Advocate once again proved why history will be kind to him. While many have chosen silence for comfort, Falana SAN chose truth for posterity.
Why Falana Deserves a National Standing Ovation:
1.The Conscience of the Nation:
For over four decades, Femi Falana SAN has remained consistent. From military dictatorship to civilian dispensation, his voice has never wavered. He defends not a political party, but the Nigerian people. That is true advocacy.
2.Law as Tool for Liberation, Not Oppression:
He has shown us that law is not just in the books, but in the streets, in the market, in the classroom and in the prison cell where the poor cry for justice. His pro-bono battles for students, workers, journalists and the downtrodden define what a Senior Advocate truly should be.
3.Fearless Advocate of Good Governance:
At a time when many elites trade principles for appointments, Falana SAN continues to demand accountability - from ballot to better life. He reminds us that 2027 must not just produce winners, but must produce better schools, better hospitals, better jobs and a better Nigeria. That is the real social contract.
4.Bridge Between Law, Governance and People:
His presence alongside emerging leaders like Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu at the ITV Lecture shows his commitment to mentoring a new generation of practical, people-centered leadership. He does not just criticize, he builds thought leadership for national rebirth.
As a Political Analyst, My Verdict:
Nigeria is at a crossroads. Our 66th Independence should be a time for sober reflection, not just celebration. The economic hardship that has triggered the ongoing nationwide warning strike by public servants today, 2nd October 2026, is a testament to the fact that the Nigerian Dream is indeed wounded.
But voices like Femi Falana SAN assure us that the dream is not dead. As long as we have patriots who will speak truth to power without fear or favour, who will defend the Constitution even when it is inconvenient, Nigeria still has hope.
We therefore call on the Federal Government, political class and citizens to listen to the Falana message: Fix education, fix justice, fix the social contract. That is what 2027 must actually deliver.
Long live Femi Falana, SAN!
Long live True Democracy!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
