Civil Society Groups Condemn President Tinubu's Emergency Rule in Rivers State

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, a coalition of over 200 civil society organizations, has vehemently condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
The group has called on the President to immediately revoke the proclamation, restore democratic institutions, and apologize to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria for undermining their democratic rights.
The Civil Society Organisations Situation Room has raised concerns about the dangers of the Emergency proclamation, citing its contravention of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The group argues that the President's action undermines the principles of federalism, the separation of powers, and the democratic rights of the people.
