Gov. Okpebholo Gifts Buses to Winning Schools, Showers Cash on Exceptional Students

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State celebrated Children's Day by gifting two Hiace buses to the winning schools in the Governor's Cup 2025, a testament to his administration's commitment to supporting education and youth development. 

The buses were awarded to Ogbe Secondary School, the winning male team, and Idia College, Benin City, the winning female team, in recognition of their outstanding performance in the tournament.

In addition to the buses, the Governor showered cash prizes on exceptional students who excelled in national competitions. 

Two students from Itohan Girl's Grammar School, who represented Edo State in the NDDC Quiz Challenge and emerged second nationally, were awarded N5 million each.

The Governor also promised to sponsor the winners abroad in future competitions, highlighting his dedication to celebrating excellence beyond Nigeria's borders.

During the celebration, Governor Okpebholo warned students against cultism, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their potential and avoiding harmful activities. 

He reaffirmed his administration's zero-tolerance stance on cultism in schools and pledged to provide resources and support to empower students and create safer learning environments.

The Governor's Cup 2025 finals were a highlight of the celebration, showcasing the athletic prowess of secondary school students across Edo State. Idia College, Benin City, emerged victorious in the female category, while Ogbe Secondary School won the male category. 

The event served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and empower the younger generation, with speakers calling on parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders to play active roles in promoting child safety and development.
