The festival, themed "Nurturing Talents, Promoting Tourism," will take place from September 8 to 13, 2025, bringing together athletes from all 31 Local Government Areas.
At a media briefing held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Inter-Ministerial Committee, led by Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, outlined a comprehensive plan to deliver a world-class, community-centered event.
The festival is part of Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda, which aims to harness the power of sports to develop human capital, foster unity, and boost the local economy through tourism and investment in sports infrastructure.
The festival will feature 18 core sports, including football, athletics, swimming, boxing, and wrestling, with local games like Ayo, Kokowa, and Cricket as demonstration sports.
Team sports will be organized at the senatorial district level, promoting local pride and healthy competition. The event will showcase junior and senior athletes, providing a platform for talent discovery and long-term career development in sports.
The festival aligns with the Governor's vision to make Akwa Ibom a key player in sports tourism, attracting visitors, investors, and fans, and boosting local businesses and hospitality industries.
The event is expected to promote the state's heritage and culture, with the official festival logo rich in cultural symbolism.
The festival is part of a broader plan that includes a soon-to-be-launched Sports Academy, a 9-hole Golf Course, and the ARISE Resort's modern sports facilities.
The government has demonstrated a unified approach to linking sports with education, community upliftment, and humanitarian efforts, with various commissioners and representatives from relevant ministries in attendance.
The Akwa Ibom Sports Festival 2025 promises to be a community celebration, a youth development initiative, and a tourism catalyst. Mark your calendars for September 8-13, 2025, and get ready to experience the state's vibrant culture, talent, and innovation.
