Uniting Against Breast Cancer: Edo State's Vibrant Celebration of Pink October

The Office of the First Lady, Edo State, in collaboration with the BeLiEF & Care Foundation and Edo Specialist Hospital, recently hosted the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, a powerful event that brought together dignitaries, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and community members to promote women's health and raise awareness about breast cancer.

The awareness walk, which commenced at Edo Specialist Hospital and proceeded to major streets within the Benin metropolis, including Oba Market and its environs, was a testament to the state's commitment to prioritizing women's health. 

The event aimed to educate, sensitize, and empower women to take proactive steps toward safeguarding their health through regular screenings and self-examinations. 

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, emphasized the importance of early detection and access to proper medical care in reducing breast cancer-related deaths. 

She expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his continued support and investment in the healthcare sector through the provision of modern medical facilities and improved access to health services across the state.The Chief Medical Director, Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr. Anthonia Njoku, expressed gratitude to all partners and supporters of women's health. She highlighted that, as part of the ongoing commitment to women's wellness, free screenings for breast and cervical cancers were being offered during the event.

 This initiative underscores the state's dedication to providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to its citizens.

The awareness walk served as a platform to promote early detection and reduce the stigma surrounding breast cancer. 

The event attracted a diverse group of participants, who were united in their quest for knowledge, support, and action. Through this collective effort, the community demonstrated its resolve to prioritize health, spread awareness, and take proactive action in the fight against breast cancer.

The 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Walk was widely regarded as a resounding success, reinforcing the collective resolve of Edo women and stakeholders to prioritize health and wellness.As the world continues to battle breast cancer and other health challenges, events like this serve as a reminder of the importance of community engagement, education, and support in promoting women's health and well-being.
