Empowering Women, Transforming Lives: UBTH CMD Celebrates Resilience at LAPO Award

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, recently joined a gathering of inspiring women to commemorate the International Women's Day 2026.

 The occasion was the LAPO Outstanding Women Leadership Award (LOWLA), which recognized the outstanding contributions of women in various fields.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu, who chaired the event, emphasized the importance of discipline, focus, and resilience in achieving success. 

She praised LAPO's 14-year commitment to empowering women through the LOWLA initiative, stating that it serves as a call to action to support and uplift one another.

The CMD highlighted the pivotal role women play in shaping their communities, noting that when women lead, communities prosper. She commended the resilience of women, describing it as a stable currency in uncertain times. Prof. Ize-Iyamu encouraged women to continue pursuing their dreams, celebrating their vision, value, and impact.

The 2026 LOWLA honored women in various careers, presenting awards in categories such as professional, farming, and business. Notable recipients included Dr. (Mrs) Nosakhare Aladeselu, who received the LAPO Lifetime Achievement Award, Nkechi Promise Ujunwa, Mrs. Adebukola Esther Taiwo, and Animashaun Aminat Aderayo.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe, Founder of Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO), and Prof. (Mrs) Lucy Adesomon Okukpon, Director of the Center for Gender Studies, UNIBEN.
