Comrade Habiba Sam Takes Over as NAWOJ Edo Chairperson in a Peaceful Transition

The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on Friday, 5th December 2025, witnessed a smooth and peaceful transition as Mrs. Adesuwa Ehimuan handed over leadership to Comrade Habiba Sam. The ceremony was conducted by the South-South Zonal Vice Chairperson, Comrade Stella Macaulay.

The event had in attendance the NUJ Edo State Chairman, Comrade Dr. Festus Alenkhe, alongside Vice Chairman, Comrade Ede Agho, Secretary, Comrade Andy Egbon, and the Chief of Staff  to the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Ijeoma Umeh, as well as other officials and members of NUJ and NAWOJ.

In his remarks, Comrade Dr. Alenkhe praised the outgoing Chairperson for her doggedness, peaceful leadership, and ability to run the association without fights or crisis. He urged the incoming Chairperson to work in harmony with all members to maintain peace and move the association forward.

In her farewell speech, Mrs. Ehimuan highlighted key achievements under her tenure, including the Pad-A-Girl Initiative, free breast and cervical cancer screening for members, and active participation in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, as well as collaborations with FIDA, MWAN, and other partners.

In her inaugural address, Comrade Habiba Sam expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to strengthen unity, collaboration, and professional development within the association. She assured members of an inclusive and progressive administration.

The event was widely described as a testament to NAWOJ Edo’s unity and shared commitment to continuous growth.
