FIDA, in conjunction with NAWOJ and other women professional organizations, has led an advocacy rally for reserved seats for women in politics in Edo State.

The rally, which took place at constituency offices across the senatorial district, aimed to push for the passage of the Special Seats for Women Bill to enhance inclusive governance in Nigeria.

The women-led organizations, including NAWOJ, FIDA, FOMWAN, NILO, NCWS, 100 WOMEN LOBBY GROUP, and AWLA, presented a petition to political holders, urging support for the bill.

The petition, signed by FIDA Edo Chairperson Princess Francisca Elema and other Chairpersons in the various organizations, emphasized the importance of gender equality, amplifying women's voices in decision-making, and strengthening democracy.

Hon Billy Osawaru, representing Orhionmwon/Uhumwonde House of Representatives district, assured the women group of his support, stating, "I have always pushed for this, and I will continue to do so. We are looking at it very well, to ensure no one is left out, especially those physically challenged persons."

He affirmed his commitment to the 35% affirmative action for women and promised to lay the petition before the house, declaring, "I am a He for She, I will always support women."

Other constituency leaders who received the petition through proxy included Hon Esosa Iyawe (Oredo Federal constituency) and Hon Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia North-East/Ovia South-West), showing a united front in support of women's representation in politics.

The rally marked a significant step towards achieving gender equality and inclusive governance in Nigeria.
